The early years

We had a happy childhood and enjoyed spending time with our grandparents and uncles most sunday mornings. We had many family holidays in

Devon and our last UK holiday was spent in Rhyl north Wales.

Rebecca started primary school in january 1971 and it was then that we got our first family dog. Before this we had pet rabbits and a hamster.

In the summer of 1972 Rebecca and I became bridesmaids for the first time to our aunt Rebecca and Robin. I remember both of us having to have

our hair put in rags the night before so that we would have ringlets for the occasion, this was very uncomfortable and neither of us slept well that

night! I also remember at the reception later, Rebecca going round and drinking the left over beer from peoples glasses!  This was something that

carried on as a year later when we were to become bridesmaids for a second time, this time in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Our grandparents were living in LA at this time and we stayed with them for a whole month. Our grandmother 'Ruby' used to like a can of budweiser in the evening,

but would often fall asleep with the can of lager in her hand. Rebecca was an expert at taking the can out of her hand, drinking the remains of

the lager and putting the can back as she had found it. So that when Ruby woke up and went to finish her drink it had all gone! This confused Ruby

no end!! At this time Rebecca was 7 years old!!

Our grandparents would also play cards with their friends and would try to teach Rebecca and me to play poker. I remember that Rebecca was very

good at entertaining everyone with her repertoire of jokes from school. Our grandparents and their friends were always eager for Rebecca's visits so

that they could hear all the new jokes and funny stories that Rebecca had saved up for them.
